What is Permanent Makeup?

Permanent makeup, also known as permanent cosmetics, derma-pigmentation, micro-pigmentation, and cosmetic tattooing, is a cosmetic technique that employs tattooing as a means to resemble makeup. This is especially beneficial for those who have medical reasons such as unsteady hands or poor eyesight that make it difficult to apply makeup. Or perhaps you lead a busy life with little time to do your makeup and are tired of your makeup getting displaced/not lasting long enough on your skin.

Whatever your reasons maybe, we would love to hear from you and create an individualized plan on helping you get there.

FAQ

Is this considered a tattoo?

This technique is considered a tattoo because we are implanting pigment into the superficial layers of the skin, however, the needle does not penetrate deep enough to be a permanent tattoo. It is the most gentle form of shading tattoos, designed to fade gradually over time as your skin naturally exfoliates and your body metabolizes the pigments.

How does it different from Microblading?

Microblading uses a precise, handheld tool with tiny needles at the end to create shape of a small blade (a microblade). The blade makes fine cuts and fills them with color to mimic the appearance of real eyebrow hairs. This method is not suitable for those with large pores, oily skin, or mature skin.

How long does the procedure take?

The procedure takes approximately 3.5 hours including consultation. Please plan ahead for this alloted time. Your face is important to me and is not something I want to rush.

Does it hurt?

Pain varies according to client sensitivity. Most clients report minimal discomfort and a 'scratchy' sensation. Topical anesthetics are applied during the procedure to alleviate sensation and optimize comfort.

Is it safe?

Yes, this method is completely safe. All materials used are medically pre-sterilized, sealed, and disposable to avoid cross contamination. Your safety is our first priority.

How long does it take to heal?

The average healing time is about 10-14 days for the epithelial crust to form and slough off. We recommend booking an appointment at least 2 weeks prior to a special event.

Will I need a touch up?

After your first treatment, the pigment will normally fade 10-30% lighter and shrink about 10-15% in size. This is great as it allows you time to reflect on final shape and color. Your touch up appointment to assess how your skin reacts to the process and the chosen color, touch up any light spots, tighten up your shape, and make any minor adjustments. Different skin types affect the attachment of color. Most clients will need two sessions, some will only need one, and some will need a third touch up to complete the look.

How long will the results last?

Results will generally last 1-3 years as long as it's maintained. The longevity and retention will vary depending on your skin type, how well your skin takes in pigment during the session, sun exposure, daily skin routines, lifestyle, diet, metabolism, health conditions, medications/supplements, etc. Annual touch ups are recommended to keep color vibrant and fresh.

How do I maintain it?

This is a 'low maintenance', no a 'no maintenance' procedure. Ombre brows are waterproof and smudge-proof solution to make your life more convenient but there will be a tiny bits of maintenance required to keep your brows looking their best. These include routinely grooming hairs outside the shape, applying SPF daily to protect from fading, and avoiding abrasive facial treatments in the brow area.

Do you have to shave off my eyebrows?

No, every attempt is made to retain your natural hair while designing your shape as it helps to blend with the shading. However, it may be necessary to clean a few hairs outside the shape with your permission for a clean, aesthetically pleasing result.

Are there allergic reactions?

Allergic reactions are extremely rare, however, we do offer a $50 patch test which must be booked as a separate appointment. This test is performed on a small area behind your ear and assessed during the following 24-48 hours to determine how your skin reacts to the pigment, needle, and anesthetics used.

Is the procedure guaranteed? What if I don't like it?

We will work closely with you during the procedure to determine technique, shape and style to your satisfaction, provide all education to optimize your results, and give our absolute best in accordance to our knowledge and expertise. But as with any other cosmetic procedures, semi-permanent make up is NOT guaranteed and results will vary per individual. There are many factors are to be taken into consideration such as skin anatomy, scarring, facial products used, lifestyle and health, etc. that play key roles in results and retention. If you do not like the decision you made, the Touch up may be cancelled and the pigmented area naturally fades over time.
